ITYOTB and Jackie Robinson: Chapters 3 & 4

Dear Readers,

School has not been going well for Shirley and she is feeling very sad and down.  Please summarize Shirley's experience at her new school so far.  Remember to include her feelings, too.  You may also include inferences about why the other kids are not including her in their games, etc.

Thanks,
Mrs. Springston

Shirley walked into the class room every one shouted “Hi!” and Shirley took a guess and said “hi!” back to them. Then later on in the year Shirley feels sad because no one said hi to her and no one lets her play any games with them. I think they don't want her to play with them because when she played a game with them one time they didn't think it was fun because all She said was one, true or tree. She feels left out because she doesn't speak English and every one laughs when she talks because of the way she says it.

    Sincerely,
    Joseph

School for Shirley had been going well on the first day of school. But on the next day they just started leaving her out. Shirley felt lonely and sad. She thought the schoolyard was full of traps. She wondered if she should pick up a ball if it rolled by, or to pick up a girl if she fell down. But finally, a boy called Joseph asked if she wanted to play. At first, she had fun. But as she realized she was making her team loose, she walked away. I think the kids are not playing with her because I think the kids got in trouble for eating somewhere else instead of the cafeteria.

Shirley is having a bad time because she barly knows two words in english and when she trise to talk to someone they can't understand. She is also having a bad time because when she plays with other kids she loses most of the time so other kids kick her of the game because they think that they might lose every time.

  4. Dear Mrs.S,

Shirley's year is not going well because she doesn't get things right that much.
So other people ignores her and doesn't play with her that often.
But one day a boy named Joseph, asks her to play.
But I think that Shirley thinks she shouldn't because maybe she might
make team lose. But Joseph was really kind so he let her play the game.
She was playing the game. But after a while, she noticed she was making
her team lose, so she stepped away. But I'm sure that Shirley will make a
lots of friends at the end of the book.

    Justin

  5. Dear Justin,

You said you think Shirley think Shirley will have a lot of friends at the end of the book. Now we are close to finishing our book, In The Year Of The Boar And Jackie Robinson but now, do you still think Shirley will have lots of friends at the end of the book?
